Mayor Peduto Says Action Being Taken To Protect Local Muslim Community After New Zealand Massacre

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto is voicing his support for New Zealand and the local Muslim community after a mass shooting at two separate mosques in Christchurch, NZ has left at least 49 people dead.

Peduto told Christchurch mayor Lianna Dalziel on Twitter, “Mayor @LianneDalziel – the people of Pittsburgh are with you and our brothers & sisters in Christchurch. Wishing you peace on this horrendous day.”

Also responding to a tweet from a Jewish Pittsburgh woman, asking “please make sure to protect our Muslim community tomorrow as we grieve with New Zealand,” Peduto responded with “Already on it”.

Eleven people were killed and six were wounded during a shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh last October.
