PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Mayor Bill Peduto's support of gun control legislation for Pittsburgh has spawned an impeachment drive against him.
Brooke Nadonley, chair of the 2nd district Republican Committee, showed up at the City-County Building Monday with 30 signatures on a petition requesting an impeachment hearing.
The drive stalled when organizer and Republican party official of Mt Washington couldn't find out who would accept her signatures. She tells KDKA radio the Home Rule Charter isn't clear.
"It's pretty vague if our laws are to be in the format that can they can understood by a layman."
She adds the Home Rule Charter gives citizens the right.
"It absolutely acts like we are supposed to be able to hold our officials accountable," said Nadonley.
Nadonley was motivated by Peduto's support of gun control legislation.
Peduto's spokesman calls the petition a total joke and waste of time. Previous impeachment efforts have been unsuccessful on grounds the charter's impeachment language was unconstitutional.
