PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and the founder of Moms Demand Action are calling on Congress and the state legislature to pass gun control bills in the next 30 days.
Saying the momentum is now, Peduto calls for action on universal background checks, a ban on high-capacity magazines and red flag legislation.
Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts, who joined Peduto, says even some Republican lawmakers are changing their minds after two mass shootings in El Paso, TX and Dayton, OH this past weekend.
"We need to show lawmakers that when they do the right thing, we'll have their backs," said Watts. "When they do the wrong thing, we'll have their jobs."
Moms Demand Action claims they have six million supporters and hundreds of thousands of volunteers which Watts says is bigger than the NRA.
"Many of our volunteers are gun owners or married to gun owners, this is not being against the second amendment, this is about restoring the responsibilities that go along with gun rights," said Watts.
