PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Seeing more deer darting across the road?
The rut has begun and it will continue to get worse.
Retired Game Warden Gary Fujak tells Larry and John on KDKA Radio, we’ll only see more deer as the mating season continues:
“It starts in September, it will get a little bit more hectic in October and love will defiantly be in the air November 15, middle of the month, that’s when it peaks so we really have to be careful when we’re driving,” said Fujak.
Fujak believes that some deer can be cautions when they come to a road but “I think they do know but sometimes especially during breeding season they’re not paying attention, at least the buck aren’t, all they care about is their girlfriend and chasing her.”
Drivers should be especially cautious when driving at dusk or dawn, when deer are most active, and should slow down when they see deer or deer crossing signs.
