PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - National Pizza Day is Sunday so it's the perfect excuse to go out and get a slice, but you might want to be careful before you eat it!
According to Babylon Health, nearly 4,000 people were hospitalized by pizza-related injuries in 2018.
The injuries range from falling up the stairs while carrying a pizza to stabbing yourself in the mouth with a fork while eating.
Other injuries including a teen who was eating pizza with a fork and poked the roof of his mouth. A woman slipped while cutting pizza with a bread knife and tried to catch it when it fell, a female who sliced her fingers with a pizza cutter and an 18-year-old who swallowed her tongue ring while eating pizza!
The figures comes from the US government's most recent NEISS injury database.
The NEISS records information from 100 hospital emergency departments and Babylon searched for all injuries that involved the word "Pizza".
The 3,800 people injured is 1500 more than reported in 2017.
