PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – The Allegheny County Sheriff's Office was notified on Wednesday that a resident received a scammer voicemail from a man with a southern accent claiming to be a Sheriff's Office Sergeant.
The voicemail recording said the following:
"This is Sergeant Kulik at the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office. Could you please be kind enough to give me a call back at 412-748-2713. We have a situation involving you and an underage minor by the name of Amber. So please give me a call back as soon as you get this message. Thank you."
If you receive this message, or another message stating it is the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office that you believe to be a scam, please call 412-350-4709.
The Allegheny County Sheriff's office reminds residents that "under no circumstances should you ever provide anyone you don't know with personal information (social security number, date of birth, credit card, bank information)."
They also not that if you ever have a suspicious call, please call the agency named by the caller. Also, take notes from the caller, like the name they provide, the agency they work for, phone number, etc. If you receive a voicemail, save it and e-mail it to the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office.
Scammers can also get personal information from people online and warn residents to be careful of predators.
