PITTSBUGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – "Bells Across Pennsylvania Day" will occur on Sunday, May 3rdas a statewide event.
The event serves the following:
- To honor first responders, healthcare workers, and employees of grocery stores, pharmacies, and other life-sustaining businesses who have continued to serve the public during the COVID-19.
- To show solidarity within communities to those fighting COVID-19 on the frontlines; and
- To come together to demonstrate that Pennsylvanians will prevail over COVID-19
Mayors and municipal officials are asked to hold whatever events "sheltering in place" will allow to encourage the public to do something special in their neighborhood for a 'hometown hero."
This can include anything from calling a "hometown hero" to delivering baked goods.
At 7:00 p.m., Pennsylvanians are asked to ring bells for three minutes, one minute for each of the above purposes.
