PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Three men have been charged by the District Attorney’s Office in an assault that occurred at a North Side gas station on Friday.
The District Attorney's office has filed charges of simple assault against Scott Hill, Sukhjinder Sadhra, and Balkar Singh.
"Under no circumstances is it acceptable for anyone, regardless of gender or race, to be assaulted in the way that is depicted in the video and such behavior will not be tolerated in Allegheny County," DA spokesperson Mike Manko said in a statement Monday.
The assault, which was captured on video and has since gone viral, began at the Exxon In Marshall-Shadeland when customers claimed a pump malfunctioned and demanded a refund, but the owners refused to issue a refund. A verbal confrontation then turned violent.
A video taken by a bystander shows the gas station owners striking one of the female customers in the back of the head multiple times and a reported employee of the gas station dragging the other customer by her hair across the pavement.
Protestors have gathered at the gas station over the past three days, demanding justice.
One woman at the rally said, “Our residents here in Marshall-Shadeland I just want to put all the other businesses on notice, on Brighton Avenue all up and through Brighton Avenue that will we not accept any type of mistreatment towards our black women in our neighborhoods and in our community.”
