HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) will begin implementing new federal unemployment compensation benefits provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act starting next week.

The COVID-19 relief package is available to self-employed, independent contractors, and gig workers eligible for benefits, extends unemployment compensation benefits for an additional 13 weeks, and provides an additional $600 per week to eligible workers.
These federal benefits are in addition to Pennsylvania's regular unemployment benefits which provides about half the full-time weekly income up to $572 per week for 26 weeks.
