PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – Police have charged three adults with multiple charges in the death of a 3-year-old child in Oakmont.
The child's father, 29-year-old Jose Eduardo Salazar-Ortiz Sr., the child's stepmother, 27-year-old Laura Michelle Ramriez, and Ramriez's sister, 20-year-old Alexis Herrera have all been charged with criminal homicide, criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Herrera and Ramriez are also charged with unlawful restraint and false imprisonment.
Oakmont Police responded to the 500 block of Tenth Street on June 9th, 2020 for an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, officers and paramedics found the 3-year-old "badly bruised and malnourished." Officers and paramedics performed life saving measures and the child was transported to a hospital, where the 3-year-old was pronounced dead.
Oakmont Police requested assistance to the County Police Investigations Division and detectives from Homicide Unit and Child Abuse Unit responded to the scene and hospital. The investigation determined that the child suffered from prolonged physical and mental abuse.
County Police Homicide detectives and Cranberry Township Police have taken Ortiz and Ramriez into custody.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Alexis Melissa Herrera. She is described as 5'06" tall, Hispanic female with brown eyes, black hair and weighs approximately 220 pounds.
