Online Fundraiser For Michael Rosfeld's Family Has Raised Over $22,000

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Michelle Rosfeld, wife of former police officer Michael Rosfeld, set up an online fundraiser for their family due to their depleting resources.

On the fundraiser's website, Michelle writes of her "dedicated husband and was formerly equally, if not more so, a dedicated police officer in various Pittsburgh area communities."

But since Michael was charged with criminal homicide, he has been unable to work, plus paying for his legal fees, has left the family financial crisis.

The fundraiser, which was set up a little over two weeks ago, has raised over $22,000 as of March 24th.

A jury on Friday acquitted Michael Rosfeld of all charges, but, according to the Associated Press, the verdict allows Rose's family to pursue the federal civil rights lawsuit they filed last August against Rosfeld and East Pittsburgh.

A defense expert testified Rosfeld was within his rights to use deadly force to stop suspects he thought had been involved in a shooting. Rosfeld told the jury that he thought Rose or the other passenger had pointed a weapon at him. Neither teen was holding one when Rosfeld opened fire, though two guns were later found in the car.
