PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – Online sports betting is coming to a computer or tablet or smart phone near you. SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia is the first in Pennsylvania to come out with an app that allows betting on pro and college games.
“We’re testing in Philadelphia for a casino there called SugarHouse so that they’ll be able to provide it 24/7 hopefully within the next couple of days,” said Gaming Board spokesman Richard McGarvey.
He says the test involves software to make sure an online bettor lives in Pennsylvania. “So we’re making sure that’s working. Also, are you keeping underage people from signing up to get on your sports wager app?”
The site address is PlaySugarHouse.com.
Pittsburgh’s Rivers casino and other eligible casinos in the state are expected to debut their apps in June. “You might find one you like over the other,” said McGarvey. “Just personal preference.”
There is no hard estimate on how many people or how much money will be wagered in the state. The evidence in New Jersey which has had sports betting longer than Pennsylvania is that 80 percent of sports wagers are made using an online devise rather than in a brick and mortar casino.
