Out Of Town Jury To Hear Officer Michael Rosfeld Case

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - An out-of-town jury will be picked to hear the homicide case against former East Pittsburgh police officer Michael Rosfeld.

Allegheny County Judge Alexander Bicket issued the order Monday citing extensive pre-trial publicity in the shooting death of Antwon Rose last June.

The judge says most of the coverage has been critical of the defendant's conduct.

Rosfeld's attorney Pat Thomassey had argued weeks of protests after Rose's killing could have created fear among potential jurors here.

Defense attorney Phil DiLucente, who is not involved in the case, tells KDKA Radio the state Supreme Court will determine which county the jury comes from.

"After the Supreme Court decides again what jury it's selected from and those persons will be bused in."

DiLucente adds there is a downside to the decision.

"It's a lot more time, patience and money when you're having a change of venire or change of venue in general."

Rosfeld's trial is tentatively set to start in late February but that could be pushed back.
