PennDOT workers
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Some PennDOT employees are going to be put on leave without pay beginning Monday.

PennDOT Spokesperson Steve Cowan tells KDKA Radio that most of the county's maintenance personnel will be affected temporarily.

Cowan adds the move won't affect any PennDOT Projects.

Also, the workers on leave can be called back at any time "in an emergency situation."

Maintenance workers are largely responsible for projects involving guardrail repair and pothole filling.

KDKA-TV reports the workers will still receive benefits and could be able to take accrued days.
