PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - We are expecting a big blizzard this weekend and PennDOT is already taking precautions.
“If it’s a lot of snow, we’ll be plowing the whole weekend. When it goes from snow, to ice, and back to snow, that’s difficult to handle,” PennDOT District 11 Executive Cheryl Moon-Sirianni said to KDKA Radio during an interview on Thursday.
“If we get the really low temperatures, salt has a difficulty of working,”
With safety concerns, PennDOT decided to bring in some back-up.
“We have rental trucks that we’re planning to call in for this weekend to help us,” Moon-Sirianni explains.
The storm will take place over the weekend which is a good thing for PennDOT because there will be no rush hour.
However, there is a possibility that some roads will be closed.
“If there’s a lot of snow, we’ll have the HOV lanes closed,” Moon-Sirianni added.
It's too soon to know how much snow we'll get on Saturday and Sunday, but we could see as much as a foot or more.
