HARRISBURG, Pa (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pennsylvania lawmakers are considering a bill to create a statewide firearm registry.

Under the "firearm registration act" owners would have to provide state police with the make, model, and serial number of all guns.

They would also be subject to an annual background check. They'd also be required to submit fingerprints and photographs of their guns - and pay a $10 fee to state police for the processing of such information.

This would all be on top of Pennsylvania's existing gun laws.

Not surprising - gun store owners and gun rights advocates oppose the bill, calling it a violation of the federal and state constitutions.

House bill 768 will go before the house judiciary committee sometime this session.
