PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The University of Pittsburgh is opening two exclusively student-run cafes on its campus beginning this fall.
Saxbys, a social impact and coffee company made the announcement Monday.
The two locations will be in the Cathedral of Learning and the Hillman Library on Pitt's campus.
The café will earn business students a semester's worth of credit and a full salary.
The students will serve as the "Student Cafe Executive Officer managing the café, staff and financial reporting entirely as part of Saxbys groundbreaking Experiential Learning Program," it said in a press release.
The staff of the café will be made up entirely of Pitt students.
Similar cafés are already operating at colleges like Penn State and Temple.
"At Pitt Business, we take our students from the classroom, to the city, to the world, and believe that real-world experience is the best teacher. The Saxbys partnership is a great way to enable students to put what they learn in classrooms into practice in an integrative context," said Arjang A. Assad, Henry E. Haller Jr. Dean of the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration. "The two Pitt Business SCEOs will work together with their peers from various majors to develop skills and promote teamwork to help them succeed in the future."
The SCEO's will be announced in the coming weeks and renovations will begin to make room for the café that will sell drinks and food.
