PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - According to a report from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police's Crime Analysis Unit, crime rates in Pittsburgh have dropped over the first quarter of 2019, continuing a steady decline of crime over the past five years.

The report states that Pittsburgh has seen a 7% decrease in all crimes compared to the same time last year, and 12% decrease over a five-year average, with violent crime down 16% over the first quarter of the year, and down 29% over five years.

"These first quarter numbers are encouraging and they are the result of the hard work our officers and detectives put in daily," Police Chief Scott Schubert said. "But we recognize that work remains. We will continue in our commitment to community and relations-based police work with the ultimate goal of eliminating all crime."
