PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS has been honored by the American Heart Association.

Pittsburgh EMS has been bestowed the Lifeline EMS Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award.

Not only is that the highest achievable honor, it’s also the third year in a row Pittsburgh has been recognized with it.

It's actually the fourth year in a row Pittsburgh EMS has won the award but the third for getting the top-tier Gold title.

The award itself is meant to spotlight outstanding work performed by paramedics and EMTs in response to cardiac and stroke patients and by using “the most up-to-date and evidence-based treatment guidelines to improve patient care and outcomes in the community you serve.”

“This is another great accomplishment achieved once again by our City’s EMS Bureau," Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said.

“To be able to maintain and provide the highest quality care for the residents and visitors to Pittsburgh is a reflection of the training, advanced skills, and technology that the Paramedics and EMTs utilize every day throughout the city. Congratulations."
