Police: Hate Crime Threat Against Pittsburgh Hospital Not Credible

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) — Police have a suspectin connection to an online threat made against a Pittsburgh-area hospital.

The social media post threatening to commit a hate crime on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. was made Tuesday.


Griffin reports sources say the suspect is a 16-year-old male, who says the threat was a prank. 

Pittbsurgh Police say investigators from multiple jurisdictions traced the threat to Beaver County early Wednesday morning and determined the threat was not credible.

Allegheny Health Network and UPMC tweeted about the threat and precautions taken against it.

UPMC released the following statement Wednesday morning.

We're aware of a tweet directed to an undisclosed Pittsburgh-area hospital. We're actively cooperating with federal and local law enforcement as they investigate this matter and determine whether or not the information is credible. More ⬇️. pic.twitter.com/ElnRmFgefD

CCAC held classes, but Allied Health and nursing students were not penalized for missing morning clinicals.

University of Pittsburgh Police also took necessary precautions in light of the threat.

Police remind the public to call 9-1-1 immediately if they ever see anything suspicious.
