PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Bishop David Zubik of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh has placed Father Thomas Wilson on administrative leave following an inappropriate behavior with a minor allegation.
According to a press release, the allegation does not involve sexual contact, but the press release does not indicate what the allegation pertains to, other than it is a violation of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The press release does say that the alleged incident happened while Father Wilson, 74, was serving as a seminarian at Saint Mary of the Mount Parish in Mount Washington, prior to him being ordained a priest.
Wilson has admitted to the allegation and it has been reported to law enforcement.
This is the first allegation the diocese has received against Wilson, who has been serving as Senior Parochial Vicar of Saint Victor Parish in Bairdford and Transfiguration Parish in Russellton.
Fr. Wilson is not permitted to engage in public ministry, dress as a priest, or present himself as a priest in good standing, and because he admitted to the allegation, these restrictions are permanent.
If anyone has been harmed by someone representing the Church, please contact the Diocesan Assistance Coordinator at 1-888-808-1235 or the Pennsylvania state abuse hotline at 1-800-932-0313.
