PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh ranks 19th among the best places to raise a family in the Northeast, according to smartasset.com.
“We looked at ten different metrics to determine the best places to raise a family in the Northeast,” said AJ Smith, Vice President of Financial Education at smartasset.com, during an interview with KDKA Radio on Wednesday.
Some of the factors taken in to consideration were: housing cost as a percent of income, annual cost of full-time center-based child care for infants, percent of residents under the age of 19, average proficiency in math/reading and high school graduation rate.
“Some of the areas where Pittsburgh scored well was in the housing cost as a percent of income. We see that number being at around 23.2 percent, that number is pretty low,” Smith explains.
“We also see that the number of residents under 19, pretty high in Pittsburgh at 19%. Then we look at high school graduation rate, 91.56 percent, very high.”
Toms River, New Jersey ranked number one.
