The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board is fast-tracking applications for businesses looking to extend their license to cover outdoor service. The move comes as more areas of the state are moving to the green phase of Governor Tom Wolf's COVID-19 reopening plan.
Serving alcohol in unlicensed areas is illegal and businesses must apply for permits to extend service areas to areas such as outdoors. The expedited license extensions waive the normal 30-day waiting period, immediately granting applicants the ability to serve in previously unlicensed areas and also waives applications fees.
The extension by the state is temporary and expires when the Coronavirus emergency ends. It does come with additional guidelines that must be followed. The area for which a licensee applies must be adjacent to, abutting and contiguous their existing licensed area.
