PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - After a couple of days of testing, the fountain a Point State Park is now running throughout the summer.
Point State Park announced on Friday morning the fountain is back on in all its glory thanks to the hard work of park officials.
The fountain will operate daily and will be activated by around 7:45 a.m. and it runs until the 10 p.m. hour.
Four Weeks of preparation and cleaning went into the reactivation, but when there is flooding, it takes longer.
880,000 gallons of water flow through the system to operate the pump and fountain.
17,000 thousands gallons of water are moved through the system, roughly one million gallons an hour.
Point State Park Ranger Jake Weiland tells KDKA Radio the water is treated but not a swimming area.
The fountain consists of three different attributes, the center column, which is the most visible, three" peacock sprays" and two pumps operating an "infinity edge"
The fountain typically opens in May but was delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The fountain typically flows through the end of October
The fountain was completed in 1974 and was renovated in 2013.
