PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - It’s a prayer that even casual Catholics know off by heart, The Lord’s Prayer.
Pope Francis has approved a change to the prayer also known as the Our Father after the Italian Bishops made a recommendation to tweak the prayer.
The words “and lead us not into temptation” will be changed to “do not let us fall into temptation.”
While this has upset some Catholics across the globe, Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik tells KDKA Radio’s Lynne Hayes Freeland that change is not coming to America any time soon.
“That would only affect the people that would be in Italy and I can certainly say . . . there hasn’t been any recommendation like that even coming for consideration to the American Bishops,” said Zubik.
Zubik says the most important thing is that people of faith prayer.
“Part of what we know is that Jesus was the son of God and . . . he was the one who taught this prayer both in the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke, it’s right there, Jesus said when you pray this is what you should say, Our Father.”
Zubik says he hopes the attention the change to the prayer is getting reminds people how important it is that people make a connection with God while in prayer and ask for his help when dealing with temptation.
