PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese is warning of a possible exposure of COVID-19 at a local church.

A parishioner who attended mass at St. Januarius in Plum on Monday, June 20 is being tested for coronavirus after a relative tested positive.

Those who attended the mass are being notified of the possible exposures.

The priest who served the mass is voluntarily going into quarantine until he gets test results, out of an abundance of caution.

“We’ve been following everything from health officials. We’ve taken every precaution to keep people safe, but this is a dangerous virus,” said Father Kevin Poecking, pastor of the churches of Oakmont, Plum and Verona. “If we have to shut down, it will give us more time to pray for our families and the community.”

The church has not been used since Monday evening and will not hold mass again until Sunday morning.

The building is being cleaned and sanitized in accordance with CDC guidelines.
