PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The prosecution has rested in the trial of Cheron Shelton, charged in the 2016 murders of five people including a pregnant woman during a backyard cookout in Wilkinsburg. Now the defense takes over.
The prosecution rested its case against Shelton Monday morning just before 10:30 in the courtroom of Judge Edward Borkowski.
Moments before, defense attorney Randall McKinney had argued the commonwealth had not met its burden and motioned for the case to be dismissed.
Borkowski denied the motion and the defense has begun to present its case.
It’s unclear how long the defense will go but it isn’t expected to be long so the jury could get the case by the end of the Monday, sooner or even tomorrow.
The prosecution ended with the testimony of three witnesses Monday.
FBI special agent Ryan Burke testified about cell phone records for the defendant Shelton
A forensic pathologist went over the autopsy reports for two of the victims.
Finally ballistics expert Tom Morgan took the stand for the third time, reviewing ballistic evidence.
