PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Two night of protests on the Point Breeze street where Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto lives has some neighbors torn between supporting protesters and desiring peace and quiet.

A drive down Hastings Street will reveal more than a couple of Black Lives Matter signs posted on home.

Michele Passerrello, who lives across the street from the mayor, supports the protesters.

“I didn’t feel that it was disruptive, I felt it was more a sacrifice that we’re making for the betterment of the mission,” said Passerrello.

Peduto has sharply criticized the so-called low profile arrest that prompted the protests, yet his meeting with protestors at his house last night was unsuccessful.

Pittsburgh Public Safety says the “exchange ended at an impasse.”

Police then issued a dispersal order asking protesters to leave the area or face possible arrest.

After protesters left the mayors home, there was a confrontation with police at Mellon Park. One person was arrested.

Councilwoman Erika Strassberger tells the KDKA Radio Morning Show, “it felt more like a confrontation than a meeting.”

“If you dare to speak with nuance or dare to see things from multiple viewpoints than you are not speaking strongly enough and I think that’s, I think that’s where they are with the mayor right now,” added Strassberger.
