The first major project is the addition of turning lanes to the Hot Metal Bridge in Pittsburgh, which will start on Tuesday, September 8.
There will be reconstruction to widen the bridge at the Second Avenue intersection and will begin at 7 a.m. on the 8th.
Workers will implement traffic shifts and lane narrowing for the duration of the project through late November.
There will be one open lane going in either direction. These changes will be in effect around the clock until work is completed.
Route 88
Also set to begin on Tuesday, September 8 is a traffic shift on Route 88 (Library Road) running through South Park Township and the Municipality of Bethel Park.
The shift will be established between Churchill Road and Clifton Road and will begin at 7 a.m. on the 8th.
Temporary, single 12-foot lanes will be operational in either direction.
The project is scheduled to continue around the clock through a projected completion date sometime in late October.
The $4.37 million project will highlighting major improvements along Route 88: widening lanes, replacing two stone arch bridges, adding left turning lanes at the Clifton Road (Route 3004) and Churchill Road (Route 3022) intersections, adding a right turning lane from Clifton Road to southbound Route 88, drainage upgrades, signage enhancement, pavement marker installation, and guardrail bolstering.
Route 19 Saw Mill Run Boulevard
PennDOT had already been enforcing lane restrictions on Route 19 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard), and they will continue through 5 p.m. on Friday, September 11.
The continued restriction will remain between Route 19 with I-376 and the West End Circle.
The project started in 2019 to rebuild Route 19's concrete, replace the Shaler Street Bridge and reconstruct the ramp, and to stretch out the Wabash Street off-ramp.
At this point, the final focuses of the project will be to repair rockfall fencing, install overhead lane control measures, and perform structural sign work.
General Pittsburgh Repaving
In conjunction with PennDOT's work, the City of Pittsburgh is also sending out an APB to Pittsburgh residents to be aware of milling and repaving operations throughout the city starting on Tuesday, September 8.
The City is asking that people be prepared to move parked cars off of streets that are set to be worked on.
The affected streets will be focused in Districts 4,7, and 8.
A list and schedule can be found on the City's website.
The $15.7 million project is concentrating on resurfacing streets with asphalt, providing ramp upgrades on already paved streets, and fixing damaged concrete, brick, and stone roads.
There will be general problem-area repair sprinkled throughout Pittsburgh along the way with the already planned 27-mile stretch set to be addressed.
Residents can sign up for alerts at 412-255-2423.
This will allow the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to contact areas that will be affected by repaving.
Fliers will also be placed on cars 48 hours in advance to any work.
