The free tour will stop in Pittsburgh starting June 13, and will wrap up Saturday June 15 with a free family festival and show on Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park. The festival will bring “together community partners, celebrities, elected officials, and families to highlight the many ways that Sesame Street—and the nonprofit organization behind it—helps kids everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder.”

Sesame Street’s crew will also be on hand filming segments that will ask Pittsburgh children what they love about their community and will also feature Big Bird and other characters visiting local landmarks and community organizations.

“The city of Pittsburgh is honored to welcome the Muppets this June as they celebrate 50 years of making an impact,” said Mayor William Peduto. “Sesame Workshop’s visit to Pittsburgh will shine a spotlight on the many ways that Sesame - and local organizations - are teaching, inspiring, and supporting children.”

The footage will be a part of the show’s 50th season which premieres on HBO in November.

The festival will provide live performances along with kid-friendly activities.

More details can be found on Sesame Street’s website.

This isn’t the first time Big Bird will make a trip to Pittsburgh. In 1981 the famous Muppet made an appearance on the make-believe portion of an episode of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
