PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - An Allegheny County Sheriff's deputy has been tested for COVID-19 after showing symptoms and interacting with 15 other deputies.
In a release, the Sheriff's office says the deputy was tested after he reported for duty and said he was worried that he was showing symptoms of coronavirus.
The deputy said his son's girlfriend had recently returned from a trip to Spain.
While the deputy was out of town over the weekend, the female visited his home.
The deputy called his doctor and was told not to go to the health facility.
He took a sick day Tuesday but reported to work on Wednesday after he said he was showing signs of COVID-19.
The deputy came in contact with a number of other deputies and then told his supervisor he was feeling symptomatic.
He was immediately sent home and was in the building for about 10 to 12 minutes before he was ordered to leave.
On his way home he was tested and has been instructed to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days.
Out of an abundance of caution, the 15 deputies were sent home and will return to due as soon as Sheriff Mullen "receives the necessary information to return them to duty."
The Sheriff's office stresses that no one has tested positive for COVID-19 as of Thursday and that operations in the office have not been negatively impacted.
None of the 15 who were possibly exposed have shown any symptoms and will be paid during their leave.
