PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA Radio) - Slippery Rock University President William Behre is responding after Dr. Phil McGraw apologized for his comments late last week when he seemed to insult SRU while talking about the college bribery scandal.

Dr. Behre tells KDKA Radio he accepts the apology and doesn’t take it personally, he just thinks the University name was stuck in his head.

“A couple of years ago . . . they did a March Madness poll of the most unique college names and Slippery Rock won,” said Behre. “I’m guessing that somewhere along the line he saw one of those things. It was a catchy name, it was in his head and then when he got interviewed he had pick a unique name and he went with ours.”

Behre adds they are “grateful” for McGraw mentioning them and pointing out the strengths and accomplishments of the university in his apology letter.

The hope is that McGraw will visit the university in the future to either address the students at graduation or film his show from the campus.

“Wouldn’t it be great if he filmed a segment on our campus next fall?” asked Behre. “There are lots of things that college students struggle with and wouldn’t it be fantastic if he were to come and highlight those issues in a segment or two and he could do it right from here next fall, we would love that.”

What do you say Dr. Phil?
