PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA - There will be no Shriner's Circus in the City of Pittsburgh this year, for the first time in 60 years.
Bob Addelman Jr., recorder for the Pittsburgh Syria Shriners and a past-potentate has been a Shriner since 1983 and is disappointed there will be no circus this year.
He tells KDKA Radio's Lynne Hayes-Freeland new legislation has made it impossible to hold the circus in the city.
"The circus was traditionally our largest fundraiser," said Addelman. "It is not possible to put on a circus that features performing animals in the city of Pittsburgh these days so circus as we've known it is not viable in Pittsburgh, so we're exploring other options."
The Shriner's are looking to replace the revenue generated with the circus with other activities.
