VANDERGRIFT, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Two neglected pit bulls are recovering after being rescued from a "vacant deplorable house in Vandergrift."

The pit bulls were rescued by Tiny Cause, a non-profit foster based animal rescue in Vandergrift, after they were contacted by local police.

In a Facebook page, Tiny Cause says the pit bulls were "very neglected" and "The females (on the left) entire face & ears are so swollen. Every bone in their malnourished bodies show. They drank water as if it was gold."

The animal shelter is asking for donations as they nurse the dogs back to health.

Tiny Causes also says "If you can't take care of your dogs don't put them in an empty house to starve to death!!! This is NEVER the answer!!!! "

The owners allowed Tiny Cause to enter the house and rescue the dogs.

It is not known if the owners will face any charges.
