PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority Board has given preliminary approval to redevelopment plans at the former Civil Arena site.

The $200 million project includes a 26 story headquarters building for First National Bank.

The board voted 4-1 to approve the plans.

The bank will upfront a total of $11 million for housing and economic development in the rest of the Hill District.

We’ve already reaped an enormous amount of community benefits and we need to reap more,” said URA Chairman Sam Williamson.

Developers also agreed to open a hiring center run by the Panthers 4 Work non-profit.

The board delayed a vote one week ago and the Penguins said they would halt work on the project.

The URA agreed to extend a final closing deadline until December 10, 2020.
