PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Pittsburgh and much of the surrounding area.

The advisory is in effect from midnight though 1 p.m. Friday.


The National Weather Service says that 1 to 3 inches could fall around Pittsburgh.

LATEST ACCUWEATHER FORECAST

Rain will change quickly to snow and could make for a difficult commute with the heaviest snow falling between 4 and 9 a.m.

The NWS predicts the heaviest snow will fall in Pittsburgh, Butler and Washington between 4 and 6 a.m.

Road crews say they are ready for the precipitation if and when it comes.

Allegheny County Public Works say they have 26 salt trucks with plows ready to roll beginning at 2 a.m.

"Drivers will be kept over the end of their shifts and additional drivers will be brought in, as needed, to provide constant coverage until the precipitation stops and county roadways are clear." The county said in a release.

Officials urge motorists to plan ahead and keep and to slow down if conditions are poor on the road.

They also remind drivers to leave extra space between their vehicle and the ones in front of them.

Rush hour traffic makes it difficult for salt trucks to cover all roads so please give trucks plenty of room on the road.
