Commonwealth Media Services

HARRISBURG, Pa (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Wolf administration is accepting grant applications  through the State School Safety and Security Grant Program aimed at reducing or preventing community violence.

$7.5 million has been earmarked for the program, available to municipalities, counties, schools and community organizations.

"We must continue to address violence of all types in Pennsylvania communities and these grants can help do that by funding programs targeted to communities' specific needs," Governor Tom Wolf said. "Continuing to fund community violence prevention programs expands our goal of a safer Pennsylvania for everyone."

In the first two years of the program, almost $15 million in grants have been awarded. The State School Safety and Security Committee program is now in its third year.

Tuesday, November 10 is the deadline for applications. Awards will be announced in January.
