HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - After the weeks-ago request that the Wolf Administration help the PIAA in attempts to safely operate a high school sports season, the two have been "in contact" with one another.
In a response on Friday, the Wolf Administration reiterated that the PIAA should heed the advice of school districts before fully committing to any given measure.
The Wolf Administration also had reluctance for some of the PIAA's current plans and was curt with the latter's requests for liability protections.
The original recommendation to postpone or cancel the season came from the desk of Governor Wolf, but recent developments have been more favorable for the student-athletes and their families since football has been given the go-ahead.
It's a balancing act, though.
Those recommendations, according to the Wolf Administration, are "grounded in public health evidence and a common-sense reaction to league after league cancelling or postponing their fall seasons, outbreaks across the country, growing evidence of higher transmission in children, protecting higher-risk adults, and the fundamentally important need to get kids back into learning in classrooms."
