PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Local television news anchor David Johnson’s family has been deeply impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.

The longtime WPXI anchor reported in a Facebook message Tuesday evening that his in-laws have both died from COVID-19.

Johnson says his wife Nancy’s parents Gerald and Arline Polinsky passed away at hospital in Florida, adding they died peacefully.

89-year-old Gerald contracted the virus nearly two weeks ago and 86-year-old Arline got it a few days ago.“Hospital staff was able to put them in the same room--their beds, side by side,” Johnson said. “He succumbed before midnight, then only a couple of hours later, she left us. In a scene befitting a storytale ending, as his body was being moved out of their room, the nurses told us that she noticed and said, ‘Together, Jerry!’ And then she was gone.

The couple was married for 64 years.

“May their memory be for a blessing,” Johnson concluded.

In an additional post, Johnson says the daughters of two of his family’s neighbors lit candles and put them out the front steps to honor the late couple.
