Some unusual activity on Twitter by the mega-hit HBO series “Game Of Thrones” has fans buzzing about a possible new season that not everyone is excited about.

On Wednesday, the show’s official Twitter account took to the social media site, saying “Winter is coming,” a common cliff-hanger phrase used throughout the American fantasy drama television series.

The cryptic message has gotten fans talking about the disappointing series finale to the HBO show, as well as speculating about a remake, NME reported.

The show previously received backlash for a final season that did not satisfy viewers who had high expectations for the conclusion of the coveted show. The season finale of Season 8 aired on May 19, 2019.

The backlash led to a petition signed by 300,000 angry fans demanding the show remake Season 8 with “competent writers.”

Later, a survey of 1,500 fans found that “Game of Thrones” had been voted the second most disappointing TV finale ever, according to the outlet.

One person on Twitter responded to the new rumors, saying “Never before have I seen a series nose dive so hard and be abandoned by its fans and viewers. I'm currently re-watching the show and it physically hurts to know how unrewarding the finale is. If y'all can revive this franchise, it would be a miracle”

Another displeased fan on Twitter wrote, “You made us wait an extra year for a short and disappointing Season 8,” alongside a meme that says, “…and I took that personally.”

There has been no official word if HBO plans to create an additional season of the show, or remake the season finale.

There are currently three new “Game of Thrones” spin-off series in the works, including the upcoming “House of the Dragon,” which is set to start production this month and land on HBO in 2022.
