PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Work starts Friday on a major thoroughfare on the university of Pittsburgh campus.
The block of Bigelow Boulevard between Forbes and Fifth Avenues will be closed for the next nine months.
The city and Pitt plan is a major overhaul including a median, single lane traffic in each direction, a relocated crosswalk, utility upgrade, and redesigned streetscape.
The redesign aims to "increase safety and accessibility" as well as "beautify the center of the campus."
Thousands of pedestrians cross Bigelow every day. The 23 million dollar project to be complete by the start of school next august.
