Injured Dog
The ANNA Shelter

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Vets at the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center are assisting two dogs suffering from horrible injuries due to abuse.

A humane officer with the ANNA Shelter in Erie responded to a call over a concern about a dog with possible injuries.

When Officer Eric Duckett arrived he discovered not only one but two dogs with horrible injuries, the worst he has ever seen, according to a Facebook post.

One dog has injuries on its back, neck and ear. The other with head, neck and nose injuries.

The owners of the dogs initially refused to release the dogs but eventually did allow them to be taken for treatment.

The dogs were fused to the Pittsburgh complex on Camp Horne Road and it was discovered the dogs suffered severe chemical burns after Drain-O was poured on them.

"Goldie is a 2 year old terrier mix weighing only 10 pounds. She has suffered burns that exposed muscle and tendons on her head, face, muzzle and front legs over 80% of the area. Her skin has contracted so badly that she cannot close her lips and only her bottom eyelids can move," The ANNA  Shelter said.

"Chopper is a 9 month old male Pit mix who has suffered burns over the majority of his back and torso and lost his right ear to the burns."

The ANNA Shelter says the pictures of the dogs when they arrived are too graphic to share.

Both dogs are said to have a long road of recovery ahead and are expected to stay in Pittsburgh for at least a few weeks.

Files have been charged against the owners.
