Online Petition Aims To Bring 'The Rock' To Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - What started out as a joke has turned into a serious campaign to get Hollywood’s top star to visit Slippery Rock University.
A petition on Change.org is urging people to sign to try to convince Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to visit “The Rock” university.
The idea started as a joke between student and Cranberry native Samantha Kochis and a friend of hers.
“One night during the summer, I just decided to make it a petition online,” Kochis told KDKA Radio. “I knew it would make some people smile, and it wouldn’t hurt anyone. There’s a lot of power in the internet! That’s why I feel pretty amazed at the response of the petition. I never really thought it would get anywhere.”
The petition has gained a lot of momentum in the past few days climbing to over 2,300 as of Wednesday afternoon.
“I think reading the comments is one of my favorite parts about it,” said Kochis. “The response has been so positive, and everyone all has the same idea of “why not?” It wouldn’t hurt to ask!”
Kochis said she has spoken with the University’s Program Board, they are responsible for bring gust artists in and getting The Rock will be a challenge.
They always do such a great job! However, because The Rock is such a huge name, it would take a lot financially to get him here.”
But that doesn’t mean that Kochis doesn’t think it can’t happen.
“There is so much with the power of community,” said Kochis. “I believe this could get somewhere if the word spreads far enough! From my understanding, Dwayne Johnson is a humble guy, and he does a lot for his fans! We’ll see what happens, but I’m always optimistic.”
Johnson is currently promoting his new movie, “Jumanji: The Next Level” in theaters December 13.
And Johnson is already a staple on campus, He’s famous catchphrase from his WWE days “If you smell what The Rock is Cookin’” is used before SRU home football games.
