Report Shows Problems With Tracks Weeks Before Station Square Train Derailment

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The report is in on last summer's derailment of a Norfolk Southern freight train at Station Square.
Federal investigators cite serious oversights in the inspection process.
The report on last summer's seven car freight train derailment at Station Square blames faulty track and cites "serious oversights" in the inspection process.
The Federal Railroad Administration report says Sperry Rail Services, which inspected the track, failed to follow up on an ultrasound test that showed a defect weeks before the derailment.
No one was hurt but seven cars left the track causing nearly a million dollars in damage.
North Side rail safety activist Glenn Olcerst calls for clearer regulations.
“Norfolk Southern and its rail line have resisted any federal regulation onto what is reasonable track wear.”
Norfolk Southern and Sperry have not responded to the report.
