Bishop David Zubik doesn't take sides, urges love surrounding 2020 Elections

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) As the 2020 Presidential Election nears, many people have been taking sides and endorsing either President Donald Trump, or the Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

One person who is not taking sides, however, is Pittsburgh’s bishop David Zubik.

In a statement released by the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, Zubik stated that he has been getting many messages about who he is supporting.

“While I urge all the faithful of our diocese, both the laity and the clergy, to help build a better society by exercising their right to vote, it is not my role nor can it ever be for me to tell anyone for whom to vote,” Bishop Zubik said. “As Church, we must be about addressing issues grounded on our faith and tradition.”

The statement used a video made by the Catholic Diocese and Zubik in 2016 about what it means to vote as a member of the catholic church.

While Bishop Zubic is remaining openly neutral, he is urging love in times of conflict and confusion.

“As we make conscientious decisions about voting, you and I must continue to love each other despite our differences. As we approach this election, if we do not act with love toward each other, then we all will have lost,” he said.
