Iron City beer is coming back to the Steel City.
Pittsburgh Brewing has plans to build a brewery at the former PPG Plant in East Deer's Creighton neighborhood after spending the last 12 contract brewing in Latrobe.
All of the Pittsburgh Brewing Company's producing will be brewed in-house by 2022.
In a release, Pittsburgh Brewing says they'll be able to produce 150,000 barrels a year when the facility opens and will eventually be able to produce 750,000 barrels a year.
The new facility is 140,000 square-feet and will have state-of the art equipment imported from Germany.
There are also plans in place for the 40-acre facility along the Allegheny River including a restaurant, outdoor event venue, beer museum and marina.
"While the brewery in Latrobe has been a tremendous facility to make all of our products, it will be very satisfying to be able to control our production again from start to finish," said Brewmaster Mike Carota.
In addition to staples like Iron City, I.C. Light and Block House, the extra space will give the company the ability to create more small-batch recipes.
The PPG Plant first opened in 1883 and was used to fabricate glass for cars, planes and buildings, including planes used in World War II.
