According to ESPN, the Pirates have made a deal with the Yankees to acquire right-handed pitcher Camilo Doval.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports its two prospects in exchange for the reliever. Those prospects are reportedly catcher Omar Alfonzo, who was just promoted to Double-A Altoona and outfielder Luis Cruz of the Pirates’ Dominican Summer League.

The 29-year-old Doval is currently 3-1 with an ERA of 4.54 over 44 games this year.

Doval has 39 strikeouts over 39.2 innings of relief with 18 walks and one save.

Left handers are hitting .360 against Doval, righties are hitting .143.

He’s making $6.1 million this year and has one more year left of arbitration before becoming a free agent in 2028.

According to Pirates pregame and postgame host Dan Zangrilli, a source told him "Camilo Doval is a talented, experienced right-handed reliever who adds depth and upside to our bullpen. He has more than 100 career saves, was an All-Star and led the National League in saves in 2023."

The source continued saying, "while his results with the Yankees have been inconsistent, the arm talent remains. He continues to feature elite velocity and has experience pitching in high-leverage situations. In his current form, we believe he strengthens the right-handed portion of our bullpen. We also believe there are adjustments that could help him regain more consistency. Sometimes a talented player benefits from a change of scenery, a new environment and a clearly defined role. We believe we can provide that opportunity."

Zangrilli said the source also said "Doval gives us upside for the remainder of 2026 and is under club control for 2027.
This is an opportunity to add an experienced right-handed reliever without compromising other plans."
