During their weekly COVID-19 briefing, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Allegheny County Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen did not add to the current county safety advisory but urged extra caution as we enter Thanksgiving Weekend.
For Allegheny County there will be no new advisory restrictions, but Fitzgerald and Dr. Bogen noted that it is the informal gatherings that are the biggest reasons for the spread of COVID-19.
Going to restaurants and bars when the removal of a mask is common has shown to play a large role in the spread, as well as events like birthday parties or weddings.
Wed. night starting at 5:00 p.m. there are to be no alcohol sales throughout the state of Pennsylvania, that mandate was set by Gov. Tom Wolf because he is aware that the day before Thanksgiving is historically one of the largest drinking days of the year.
Restricting that opportunity should restrict the likelihood of large gatherings.
Fitzgerald and Dr. Bogen made sure to mention that not just the case rate, but also the death rate from COVID-19 is on the rise.
The rates are not only rising in the county or state but across the country.
During the briefing there was a notification that was reached on all cell phones in the state of Pennsylvania, again warning people to "Stay home if possible, wear a mask, wash your hands for 20 seconds."
