There's a fresh look honoring men and women who have given their lives to protect our communities in Allegheny County and it's all thanks to the efforts of a father and son who saw something wasn't right, and it was made right by a retired police officer and two amazing companies. Just a few months ago Get Marty's Patrick O'Connor was out on a bike ride with his son along the North Shore and noticed something wrong. The letters facing the river from Allegheny County's Law Enforcement Officers Memorial were not only tarnished, many were missing altogether. After posting a video, we received an outpouring of support to get this fixed.

Retired officer Bob Garvin answered the call with a donation and the folks at Rome Monument and Matthews Architectural Products jumped in to help as well. John Dioguardi is President of Rome Monument. He was quick to put his team in action and tapped in his colleagues at Matthews who did the original lettering work. They were able to restore the letters and create new ones to replace the ones that were stolen. They were just put in place on Friday.
The cost for all of this could have been as much as $20,000 but thanks to the kindness of these two companies and a generous donation from Garvin, it was all done for less than $1,000! How amazing is that!
Donna Best runs the memorial, she's also a retired officer and widow whose husband is among the officers in tribute at the memorial. She couldn't be more thrilled at how this all came together.
