PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – According to the latest data, hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are declining across the state of Pennsylvania, and the number of patients in intensive care units are declining, the TribLive reports.
The information comes from OpenDataPA and shows the number of patients hospitalized has dropped 12% in the past week, and 46% in the past month.
One month ago, there were 5,318 patients hospitalized due to COVID-19. A week ago, the number was at 3,280. That number is now down to 2,881.
Of those hospitalizations, 565 patients are in the ICU, which is down 13% from last week (650), and down 48% (1,092) over the month. Of the 565 patients, 296 are on ventilators.
The statewide percent of COVID-19 positivity is also down to 8.6% from 9.3% last week.
"This is the first week in many, many weeks that we are seeing counties with lower than 5% positivity rates...This is good news for mitigating the spread of this virus in our communities across the commonwealth," Governor Wolf said.
"We appreciate all residents who have taken steps to mitigate the spread in our communities and, while this fight is not over, our resilience in masking up, washing up and downloading the app are still as important as ever," Alison Beam, Acting Secretary of Health, said. "While we wait for more vaccine, we need Pennsylvanians to be patient and continue practicing these proven health practices and mitigation efforts to unite against covid-19."
